Tito Sotto bid farewell to the longest running variety noontime show in the Philippines, “Eat Bulaga!” This is after the Senator was elected Senate President yesterday, replacing Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III.
After Pimentel officially handed his resignation in the morning, Tito officially took office and swore an oath during the Senate plenary session later in the afternoon. Sotto has been part of the Senate for 20 years now.
Last week, 15 other majority bloc senators signed the manifesto electing Sen. Tito Sotto as the incoming Senate President. Sotto himself couldn’t believe his election saying, “Ni sa panaginip ay hindi sumagi sa aking isipan na ako ay maluluklok bilang pangulo ng Senado”.
And to focus more on his responsibilities as the new Senate President, the “T” in the TVJ triumvirate expressed that he will be briefly exiting the show.
“Yes, magpapaalam muna ako [sa Eat Bulaga!],” he revealed.
And even though there are no Senate sessions from Thursday to Saturday, Sotto prefers not to make an appearance on the show. Instead, he opts to spend his free days rummaging through Senate work.
“Hindi na siguro, hindi na muna. Mag-uusap kami nila Vic at Joey at ni Tony Tuviera,” he added.
During his acceptance speech, he promised to give his all in his new post.
“To my colleagues and to the Filipino people, I am committed to do my very best,” he said.
Well, Mr. Senate President, we expect nothing but the best for the country.
