“There’s no excuse for how we responded” Japeth Aguilar issues public apology over Gilas-Boomers brawl

The “basketbrawl” between Gilas Pilipinas and the Australian Boomers during the FIBA World Cup qualifying match shocked many basketball fans. Game officials ejected 9 members from the Philippine team and five from the Australian team. The Boomers won by default with a final score of 83-59.

Among the Gilas players ejected was Japeth Aguilar. The basketball star recently issued an apology via Twitter. He said that he and his teammates should have dealt with things differently. He also admitted that they acted irrationally hence the game’s outcome.

Many fans commended the Gilas player for setting aside his pride. They showed their support by replying to the athlete’s tweet.

Japeth Aguilar plays power forward/center for Gilas Pilipinas. He began his career in basketball as a player for his alma mater, Ateneo de Manila University and US division 1 school Kentucky University.

Apart from Japeth, other Gilas players also issued their statements about the issue. Most of them insisted that their actions following the incident were done to protect their teammate.

Members of Gilas and various celebrities are currently divided on their opinion over the basketball players’ actions. Some regard it as shameful for the country while others consider it as an expression of the players’ camaraderie.

Whether it’s for the sake of brotherhood or not, letting one’s emotions rule over reason often result in issues like this.
