Aussie journalist calls out commentators of the Gilas – Boomers brawl

Opinions and comments regarding the infamous “basketbrawl” continue to pour out days following the incident. Fans, celebrities, and the press publicly criticize players from the Gilas Pilipinas and Australian Boomers team. However, this unexpected commentary of award winning sports journalist Chris Graham puts some things into perspective.

Many might think that the journalist would be partial about his opinion on the brawl. However, it was the other way around. Chris called out how Australian commentators narrated the commotion as the events unfold in an article her wrote for NewMatilda.com

The sports Journalist added that despite the fact that the Gilas players were the first ones to commit an offensive foul, it is a common scenario in the basketball court. On the contrary Daniel Kickert’s “flying elbow” shows an apparent assault to the Filipino player.

Chris backed up his claim by writing an impartial a blow by blow narration of the “baskestbrawl.” He added that Australians often turn a blind eye on their fellowmen’s misconduct especially when sports is involved.

Australia already has an international reputation as a pretty bad sporting nation. Bad in the sense of our behavior. This latest incident doesn’t do much to dissuade the world of that notion. More importantly, it looks like we’ll miss another opportunity internally to have a reasonable discussion about the behavior of our sporting icons.
