Buboy Fernandez breaks down in tears after Manny Pacquiao’s knockout victory against Lucas Matthysse

The emphatic win celebrated by Sen. Manny Pacquiao was shared by our proud country. It was the legendary boxer’s first knockout victory after nine years. And we’d like to think that every Filipino jumped out of their seats when Lucas Matthysse went down for the third and last time. However, no one is as grateful for the win other than Buboy Fernandez.

If you are a fan of Philippine sports, then you’d know how hard it was for Buboy Fernandez to replace coach Freddie Roach. No one can discredit the success that Manny Pacquiao achieved through the guidance of his former coach. Freddie was the man that led him away from the streets of General Santos and into the bright lights of fame.

So, when we heard that Buboy Fernandez was the one to replace him, doubters started to appear. They’ve given him one hell of a ride which pushed Manny’s longtime friend to do the best he can. Apart from wanting to prove everyone wrong, Buboy hoped that his friend would win.

He studied and scouted Lucas Matthysse fighting styles and tendencies. He put in a lot of work into conditioning Manny. The result? A knockout win that everybody raved about! It was a huge moment for Buboy and this was proven by how emotional he became.

KC Montero posted a candid video on Instagram that showed the boxing coach overcome with joy, Buboy cried and was brought to his knees, even lifting his hands and thanking the Lord for their success.

As for Manny Pacquiao, he only had good words to say to his friend and coach:

“Buboy just told me to look for openings. I followed his instruction and it resulted to a knockout win. I’m not saying that Freddie Roach is not a good trainer. He’s a legend. I’m thinking about getting him to train me again but Buboy handled our training camp and the fight really well and I appreciate it.”

So proud of you Buboy!! This win is also yours!
